Get Familiar with the Big E-Z Books + App
1. Bookmark Your App to Access It in The Future
Save your Big E-Z Books+ bookkeeping app link by pressing Ctrl+D (Windows) or Cmd+D (Mac) in your browser. Bookmarking ensures you can access your small business accounting dashboard instantly without searching for the URL.
You can also pin the tab or add it to your browser’s favorites bar for one-click access.
Keeping your bookkeeping software just a click away helps you stay consistent with your financial record-keeping.
2. Complete the Settings Page Information
Navigate to the Settings tab and enter your business name, mailing address, and EIN or Tax ID number. This information is used to populate your financial reports, invoices, and official documents generated within Big E-Z Books+.
Completing your business profile ensures your Profit & Loss statements, Balance Sheets, and customer invoices display accurate company details.
You can also set your fiscal year start month and other preferences to match your business structure.
3. Review the Accounts & Categories List
Click the ACCOUNTS & Categories tab to review the default chart of accounts included with Big E-Z Books+. Enter your Starting Balances in the default Asset, Liability, and Equity accounts you will be using.
The chart of accounts organizes your income, expenses, assets, liabilities, and equity into categories used for bookkeeping and financial reporting. You can add custom accounts, rename existing ones, or remove categories that don’t apply to your business.
Tailoring your chart of accounts ensures your transaction categorization and financial reports accurately reflect how your business operates.
4. Enter or Import Your First Transaction
Add your first bookkeeping entry by manually entering a transaction or importing a CSV bank statement file. To import, click the Import button after choosing an account on the ACCOUNTS & Categories tab, upload your file, and map the columns to the correct fields.
Big E-Z Books+ supports imports from most major banks, credit cards, and financial institutions.
Getting your transactions into the system is the foundation of accurate bookkeeping, whether you’re recording income, expenses, or transfers.
5. Categorize Your First Transaction
Assign the correct account category to each uncategorized transaction to keep your books accurate and up to date.
Navigate to the Reports tab and select the Uncategorized Transactions report to see which entries still need a category. Click on a transaction, choose the appropriate account from your chart of accounts, and save.
Properly categorized transactions ensure your Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and tax-related reports reflect your true financial position.
6. Find and Click the Reconciliations Tab
Click the Reconciliations tab to access Big E-Z Books+’s bank reconciliation feature, which helps you verify that your book balance matches your bank statement.
Reconciling your accounts each month is essential for catching errors, identifying missing transactions, and maintaining accurate financial records. Select the account you want to reconcile, enter your bank statement ending balance, and check off the transactions that have cleared.
Regular bank reconciliation is a bookkeeping best practice that gives you confidence your financial data is correct.
