Reconciliation Made Painless

How to Reconcile Your Bank Account — Step by Step for Small Business Owners

Bank reconciliation sounds scary, but it doesn’t have to be.

This step-by-step tutorial shows you how to reconcile your checking account, credit card, or any bank account in Big E-Z Books+ — check off cleared transactions, see your balance difference in real-time, and auto-generate a reconciliation PDF when you’re done.

The easiest way to reconcile a bank statement.

Video Script:

Reconciliation is one of those words that sounds like it belongs in a courtroom, but all it really means is: “Do my books match my bank statement?”

And in Big E-Z Books+, it’s actually… kind of satisfying? Let me show you.

Go to any financial institution account — your checking account, savings, credit card, whatever — and click on the Reconciliations tab.

Hit New Reconciliation, and you’ll see a simple setup form. Grab your bank statement and enter four things:

  1. Statement start date
  2. Statement end date
  3. Beginning balance (Big E-Z Books+ auto-fills this from your last reconciliation if you have one)
  4. Statement ending balance — that’s the closing balance on your bank statement

Click Start Reconciling, and you’ll see your reconciliation worksheet. Every transaction in that date range shows up with a checkbox. Just check off each transaction that appears on your bank statement.

As you check items, the summary panel at the top updates in real-time:

  • Your Statement Ending Balance (what the bank says)
  • Your Cleared Balance (what you’ve checked off so far)
  • The Difference (how much you’re off by)

When the difference hits $0.00, you’ll see a green checkmark and the message “Balanced — ready to finish.” That’s the money moment. 💚

Hit Finish & Reconcile, and the app automatically generates a reconciliation PDF and saves it to your history. You can view, download, or share it anytime.

Reconciliation used to take hours. Now it takes minutes. And honestly? Seeing that green checkmark is oddly satisfying.
